About Us

Peek...Aren't You Curious, the brainchild of apparel veterans Amy Hennisch Williams, Scott Williams and Tina Canales, is a children's apparel store built on the concept that childhood is a joyful experience still open to parents. With an edited assortment of apparel, gifts and other treasures for children from three months to ten years, the store allows all who enter to connect with the joy of childhood.

From day one, the founders have kept one eye firmly focused on the intrinsic connections between parent and child. Their stores are suffused with subtle cues designed to pull the visiting shopper back to her childhood. The clothing shows the same consideration and quality that adults demand in their own wardrobe, with thoughtful details, luxurious materials, and interesting finishing work that elevates it to something that kids can love.

TINA CANALES

Tina is a mother of three who finds the celebration in the everyday; no holiday is too small or insignificant. From an impromptu tomato sauce making party with her daughters, to bringing the girls and their friends to the midnight showing of High School Musical 3, she revels in the spontaneous. Tina brings that sense of the unexpected to Peek...Aren't You Curious with her take on the retail experience.

As a child, Tina's mother used to bring yards of Liberty of London fabrics back from England to sew into skirts, shirts and dresses for Tina. The tradition has come full circle now that Tina travels to London with her daughter to buy fabrics for the Peek ... Aren't You Curious collections.

Tina's passion for creating and finding unique products for kids has led to the formation of a number of partnerships for Peek Aren't You Curious. From the Liberty of London fabrics used in their designs, to the partnerships that she created with companies like Matta, Vato, and Golfini Della Nonna, her goal is to find and bring the best products to the stores.

Tina's passion for the retail world as well as a love of design brought her back into the working world after taking five years off to raise her three girls. Her appreciation for product design, quality goods and an understanding for what customers want and appreciate were cultivated during her over 20 years in retail - from her early days at Ralph Lauren on Rodeo Drive, to her 12 years at Gap. Her years spent at Gap included a four year stint as the Vice President of Women's Merchandising which allowed her to work with a team of designers and merchants to create product assortments for customers around the globe. Partnering with Amy and Scott to create Peek...Aren't You Curious was the perfect opportunity to combine Tina's years of industry experience and her love for children.

Tina and her husband Greg live in Berkeley, CA, with their three daughters, Natalie, Isabella, and Gabriella.

AMY WILLIAMS

In the fall of 2006, after many years working for national retail brands, including a 14 year tenure at Gap, Amy co-founded Peek...Aren't You Curious with Tina Canales and her now husband, Scott Williams, whom she met and fell in love with while working together at Lucky Brand. Scott and Amy knew that they wanted to create a life together in Northern California which would include their dreams of having a family, being creatively challenged and working collaboratively with a team of highly talented people to create a brand focused on children and parenting. Peek...Aren't You Curious is the culmination of that dream, a place where the imagination of children and the dreams of parents come together.

Amy's years spent at Gap gave her a keen understanding of product development and design, production, sourcing and an understanding of how to create and build a brand. As the Senior Vice President for Product Development and Design at Gap, she also helped launch Gap Maternity and Gap Body. In 2003, she became the Executive Vice President at Lucky Brand Jeans where she was ultimately responsible for running the entire company, from product design to the retail stores. Her passion for creating a total experience that would delight a customer took root while working with a team of such talented people.

At Peek... Aren't You Curious a parent can find the perfect casual clothing for their kids; even if one is a surf dude, and the other a princess. The store encourages parents and kids to feel welcome and invites them to enjoy riding a bike around the store, reading a book on a bench or staring up at a topiary giraffe amongst beautiful black and white photography and children's art while listening to the nostalgic music of our youth. From the letterpress note cards, to a selection of wonderful books, there is always something to delight anyone who walks through the doors.

SCOTT WILLIAMS

Scott and Amy, his wife and co-founder of Peek...Aren't you Curious, met and fell in love while they were both working at Lucky Brand Jeans, where Scott was a regional manager overseeing 37 West Coast stores. After his five-year tenure at Lucky Brand, he and Amy decided to leave the corporate world behind and realize their dream of launching Peek...Aren't You Curious. As one of three co- founders at Peek...Aren't You Curious, Scott brings over 15 years of management experience in the retail industry to his responsibility for the design and construction of the stores as well as overseeing their day-to-day operations.

Having grown up in a single-parent household, Scott approaches his role as a father and husband in earnest. His dedication and vision for parenting were his main inspiration for the concept and design for Peek...Aren't You Curious. From store design to Peek...Aren't You Curious community outreach programs, that inspiration carries across the brand. Scott is responsible for Peek's store design and atmosphere; from the children's artwork and black and white photography that covers the walls to the picnic bench and jungle gym fixtures. Nothing is by chance and everything has meaning. Every detail is meant to evoke memories of childhood, including the music of the parents' youth played over the store speakers.

His influence is felt in the products as well; perhaps most strongly in the Sargent Fletcher boys sub-brand, which celebrates the explorer in every child. Scott is also responsible for Peek's Inaugural Series and Hero Series t-shirts, designed with the hope that they will create opportunities for parents and their children to start a dialog about history, greatness and ultimately what makes someone a hero.
